If you do get a web site make sure like your ebay shop it is professional as first mpressions count. You don't need to spend thousands nor do you want to do it cheaply either. Take a god look round ask for advice and read reviews on the company you decide to pick. As i have mentioned before research is the key.

Drop Shipping My Experience

The first time i done dropshipping I looked for something I was interested in, which was computers.
I found a dropshipper who done computers spares accessories etc. This dropshipper charged a monthly fee, which at first I was a bit concerned about. I done all the checks and signed up to his site.
Got my first order sent to a friends house to check the parcel had no signs of his site etc and to check the quality of the packaging. Passed on both accounts. Started looking on ebay to see what other sellers were selling for example a graphics card. After taking out the fees and posting & packaging I would make around 10% profit when i sold one. The fees are broken up in this,
1) Instalment fee
2) Final value fee
3) Paypal fee
The buyer has to pay for the p&p which is included in the price. Any item iwas selling i would list as 10 to sell. I would then list them as a buy it now which would cost me 40 pence to list 10 items. If I had listed 10 items by themselves depending on the price I was selling them at it would have cost alot more.
Before you would put your item on, ebay would tell you how much it will cost in final value fees if you list it as a buy it now. So now you know the fee.After ebay have taken out their fees, paypal then take their fees when the item has been paid for. In my case it was 3/4% + 20p of the whole selling price including p&p.
So after all this, you would then pay your dropshipper for the item sold. Lets say graphics card sold for £39.99p. Instalment fee is 40 pence, final value fee is £3.89p Paypal fee is £1.56p
Total is = £5.85p
Dropshipper charge for graphics card is £24.15p including p&p. Total cost so far is = £30.00 Profit you receive is £9.99 This is just a example of one item.The computer market is one of the hardest areas to make much profit. If you can make 10% you are doing well. Don't forget as well i was paying a monthly fee also. So to recoup my fee i would need to be selling hell of alot. Bear this in mind if you decide to dropship.

Drop Shipping And Dealing With Customers

There is no better feeling than when you sell your first item. When you start to sell more it becomes even better. Then one day a customer sends you a email or calls you to say item hasn't arrived or is broken/damaged or not how you described it. Also they have a 7 day cooling off period where they can return it. Now if you haven't prepared yourself for the customer service side of selling don't start a business. When  you drop ship a item it is you that deals when the customer first. You can't say sorry but you have to phone my supplier imagine how that would go down? Customer service is a essential part of your business, doesn't matter if your Sir Alan Sugar or a small seller on ebay. Get yourself prepared because how you deal with a customer reflects on your business.

I mentioned about the 7 day cooling of period were they could just return it. It is you that will have to refund the customer and not your supplier, so make sure you have enough funds in place for this eventuality. Most of your customers will be genuine but you will eventualy come across someone who will try to scam you. It is all part of selling am afraid so be prepared. I could write a article on customer service but there is plenty of them if you do a google search. At the end of the day its your business so you look after it the best way you can.

You will need to put some "Terms and Conditions" on items you sell. How deal with returns etc. If you google gov.org it will give you the up to date "Distant Selling Regulations" Have a good read as it will help you.Also take a look at ebays advice on how to specify your returns policy.

How many have taken a picture and then wondered why your item hasn't sold? Your picture is the first thing any potential buyer will see. That first few seconds are crucial to keeping that buyer looking at your item. The first picture you put on ebay is free after that it could cost you at least 12p a picture. How to drop ship is a big question and the answer is not for the faint hearted. If you plan of dropshipping a  product that is already saturated in the market place you may as well give up now. Look for a niche and when you think you have found one then research ebay. That is if you plan on selling on there. After checking ebay search google for the niche you plan to drop ship. Doesn't matter  what it is your dropshipping research the market place. Research the drop shipper your going to use doesn't matter if they are in the U.K. or China. Test them out first, are they reliable? do they put their leaflets in your packages to promote themselves and not you? How are they in responding to phone calls or emails? These are questions you should be asking.

How much profit can you make on the item you hope to sell? Don't forget if your selling on ebay you will have to take in to account, 1) listing fee, 2) Final value Fee, 3) Paypal fees. Is it worth your hard work after all this?
If you plan to sell from your own website you will be able to disregard the ebay fees. Also remember to try and get a few reliable drop shippers in case one of them runs out of the product you plan to sell. Don't forget you won't be the only customer on their books. This is how some successful business's have started and then combined drop shipping with wholesale suppliers. You want to be earning a living, if your not don't give up the day job. It could take 3 hard years before you start to see a return.

If you dropship items from abroad make sure you know about delivery times and to warn your customers they could get stopped by customs and have to pay V.A.T. on it. Dropshipping Samsung Galaxy S 2 i9100 Mobile Phone

The Samung Galaxy S 2 above have sold  over 10 million phones by the end of September 2011. This is another example of branded Dropshipping!. I wont discuss how much profit can be made as every individual will be different. For example, you could be a private seller, or a business seller. On ebay you will each  pay different fees. Drop shipping Problems

This problem affects not only Dropshippers.

Easy this dropshipping am thinking, computer parts are selling and then i receive a email item hasn't turned up. I reply to buyer saying it was sent recorded could they hold on for a couple of days in case it was delayed etc.

I get in touch with dropshipper by email asking if he could make enquiries. Dropshipper gets back to me saying it was definitly posted as he had given me the recorded delivery tracking number.

With Royal Mail you cannot make a claim until 15 days after posting. I keep checking Royal Mail website to see if its been signed for but to no avail. Unable to prove its been delivered i refund buyer with his £39.99p. I then have to go the process of getting money refunded by dropshipper.

This is were any little profit you make can be wiped out by a item going missing. Something you have to bare in mind is that it could take over a month to get your money back. Also when the claim has gone in to Royal Mail the item might have been delivered its just that they didn't update their system. This has happened quite alot of times to myself & other sellers so be wary.

Its great when your selling but when something goes missing it is you that has to sort the situation out and not the dropshipper. You are the one who sold the item and its your feedback & business at stake.

Drop shipping On Ebay.

So what is drop shipping and why is this selling method very popular on the website among the new ebay sellers?

Drop shipping, or drop shipment, is a process of selling a product that is neither the seller's own nor existing on his stock or product inventory.  Instead, the product is owned and kept in stock by a manufacturer or wholesaler, called the drop shipper.  Once a customer orders a product from the seller, the seller would forward the customer's order and shipment details to the drop shipper, who then ships the product directly to the customer.

How does the seller profit from this scheme?
The difference between the retail price, or the price by which he sold the product to the buyer, and the wholesale price, or the actual price of the product, becomes his profit

Now, Dropshipping! has slowly been gaining popularity in ebay, and that popularity goes with several reasons.  Among the more popular reasons why new sellers would often resort to drop shipping schemes are:

•  Reduction in Inventory Cost
Without the need to actually buy the product and keep that product in stock, the seller saves a lot on inventory cost.  Further, the seller won't have to shoulder the cost of picking and pulling the product from the wholesaler, packing the product and shipping it to the customer.

•  Transparency of the Drop Shipper
In most cases, drop shippers wouldn't mind if their products are not labeled with their own brand name, unlike in retailing where the manufacturers keep the right to name their products.  As such, the seller can claim the products as his own.  Many customers won't even know that the product never actually passed into the seller's hand.

Now, all these things may sound very advantageous to the seller.  This is the reason why many ebay newbies would instantly be attracted to this scheme.  A deeper look on drop shipping, however, would reveal its negative side.
The Disadvantages of Dropshipping!
Like every other selling method, drop shipping is not all positive.  Drop shipping also has a lot of disadvantages; so many that it may just cancel out all the advantages there is to it.

•  Inventory
It may save the seller a lot if he does not maintain the inventory of the products himself, but it may also cost him a lot of negative feedbacks and complaints if he was able to sell a product that is actually out of stock.  This is not a rare occurrence when using the drop shipping scheme, as the seller is usually uninformed about what products are still in stock and what products are out of stock.

•  Shipping
In any Dropshipping! scheme, the seller has no control over the shipping of the product from the wholesaler to the customer.   But since the customer would not know that the seller's products are from a drop shipper, the seller would have to shoulder all the blames and complaints if ever the drop shipper delays the shipping.  This would be another blow to the ebay business of the seller because this would only mean another negative feedback.

•  Product Returns
In retail businesses, the retailer would usually return a defective product to the wholesaler and it will be replaced with a new one.  Things would be different for Dropshipping! items as the product doesn't actually pass your hands.  In case of defects, the buyer would return the product to you and you would have to shoulder the refund, unless you want a negative feedback.

•  Pricing

This is being cited by many as the biggest disadvantage of Dropshipping!.  Drop shippers would usually give a particular product a higher price than its true wholesale price.  This prevents the seller from giving the product a competitive starting price on ebay auctions.
Selling products in ebay through drop shipping offers a lot of advantages.  A closer look at the scheme, however, reveals that it also has a lot of disadvantages.  "But what selling method does not have?", you may ask. 

Well, all ebay selling methods have advantages and disadvantages.  But in the case of drop shipping, the disadvantages appear to outnumber and outclass the advantages.

Dropshipping! may offer you an easy way to start your business in eBay.  In the long run, however, this scheme may bring you more losses than success.  So if you want to make money. and be successful on ebay, research the items you want to sell.

Where should I sell? Obvious one is Ebay it is the biggest shop out there. You don't have to sell online you could sell at your local car boot. Your work place, friends and neighbours. Selling through your local papers. Gumtree and loot and Amazon

Your own website! as well. I have just mentioned a few but its enough to get you started thou. Learn to walk before you run.

Ebay, to sell on there you will have to pay a fee for listing and a fee when the item sells called a Final value Fee. Be sure to check out there fees before you start selling.

Local papers, for my area if its under £100 no fee.

Loot, no fee.
Amazon. you pay fees also.

Most of what I am explaining you will already know but through experience you will be surprised how many people don't do their research.

No one can ever tell you how much profit you can make. Its all down to you.

One more thing which is important to being successful. Customer service skills are very important it can make or break your business no matter how big or small you are.
